In an effort to treat all applicants
for any position involving contact with vulnerable young people
and adults the following sets out a description of the approach
FOMO will take to ensure good practice in recruiting volunteers.
When completing the application
form please ensure that you complete all sections fully.
After we receive a completed application
form we will write to your two referees to ask them to assess
your ability to volunteer for FOMO. Upon receipt of two
satisfactory references we will invite the prospective volunteer
in for an informal interview, (None UK applicants may not be expected
If the interview is completed
successfully and the volunteer has enjoyed the experience and
wishes to return to FOMO we will write to them to officially invite
them to volunteer here at FOMO.
DECLARATION PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
FOMO is a charity working
for the direct benefit of the children and though we are very
grateful of, and appreciate the help skills, knowledge a volunteer
can bring, we feel that the volunteer must cover all their own
costs and expenses. In simpleterms, money that is needed to support
one volunteer for 3 months would feed all the 5000 children for
We do need your skills and experience and
if you agree to support yourself fully while in the service of
FOMO, we would all gain from your help.
Things the volunteer need to cover:
- All transport costs to and from
- Personal Medical insurance to cover
travel to/from, and time spent in Malawi.
- All personal medical and dental
requirements and expenses prior to travel and in Malawi.
- All food and drink while at FOMO
FOMO make a charge of £25 (approx.
$35) per day per person . This charge covers
basic shared accommodation, and utilities
As a volunteer you will want to do things
to help, as these activities are not normally part of FOMO's budget,
all volunteers are expected to show there commitment by fund raising
for FOMO prior to travel to Malawi.
- Electricity may not always be available.
- Food, normally imported foods i.e. coffee, cereal, water,
fast food etc. is not included and should be purchased
by the individual if required, in Blantyre prior to travel
- Telephone and transport to be covered by the volunteer
- Beer, wine and the drinking of alcohol are generally
- Smoking is completely banned at the centres.
- All terms and conditions may change from time to time.
